Set up by Act No. 14 of 2002 vide Extraordinary Gazette notification of Government of Himachal Pradesh dated May 23, 2002. Approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and member of the Association of Indian Universities. The University commenced academic activities from July 2002 with undergraduate B.Tech. degree programs in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Bioinformatics, and Civil Infrastructure Engineering (from July 2003).
University Recognition BY UGC & AIU :- Jaypee University Of Information Technology , Solan is the state university of Himachal Pradesh and is approved under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act 1956 and is a Member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University Grant Commission Act, 1956 According to section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 "University" means a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act, and includes any such institution as may, in consultation with the University concerned, be recognized by the Commission in accordance with the regulations made in the behalf under this Act. According to section 22(1) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 The right of conferring or granting degrees shall be exercised only by a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or an institution deemed to be a University under section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer or grant degrees.
According to section 23 of the
University Grants Commission Act, 1956 No institution , whether a corporate
body or not, other than a University established or incorporated by or under
a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act shall be entitled to have the
word "University" associated with its name in any manner whatsoever.

Act No.14 0f 2002 Of Legislative Assembly Of Himachal Pradesh -to establish and incorporate a University in the name of Jaypee University of Information Technology by law and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. WHEREAS the Government of Himachal Pradesh being desirous of creating facilities for education, training, and research in the emerging areas of technology including Information Technology in the State of Himachal Pradesh, entered into an agreement for collaboration with Jaiprakash Sewa Sansthan, New Delhi, a registered Trust, which has a major objective among others, of creating education facilities at all levels; and WHEREAS the purpose of this collaboration was to establish a University for technical education for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels including facilities for lifelong education, training and research in the State of Himachal Pradesh; and WHEREAS the State Government after due consideration has come to the conclusion that the Trust is willing and is capable of meeting its obligations under the aforesaid agreement and has actually invested substantial resources in the creation of major part of the infrastructure required for setting up of the proposed University..............(contd) | Click To Download the Act in Deatail |
